Racing Formats

The Kennebec Race will take place on August 10, 2024.

Kayak boat lengths limited to 9'6.

  • Registration opens 9:00 AM, located at Harris Dam

  • Safety meeting at 10:30 AM, located at Harris Dam

  • Downriver Time Trial begins at 11:00 AM

  • Mass Start begins at 2:00 PM

Downriver Time Trial

Time Trials will begin from below Harris Dam and end at the bottom of Magic Rapid. Flows during the Time Trails will be between 4,500 and 5,000 CFS.

Mass Start

Mass Start will begin in Cathedral Eddy and finish below Magic Rapid. Flows during the Mass Start will be between 2,500 and 3,000 CFS.

Athlete Eligibility

The Kennebec River Gorge is a stunning natural wonder in Maine, renowned for its thrilling whitewater rapids and breathtaking scenery. It is imperative you are mentally and physically ready to participate in these races prior to registering. 

Experience

Participants must have run this stretch of river prior to participating in the racing events.

Gear

All participants MUST have and are required to wear a helmet and PFD.

Safety Equipment

Throw bag required. Kayak float bags strongly recommended.

Race Location

The Kennebec Races takes place along the upper section of the Kennebec River. The put-in for the races is located below Harris Station Dam, accessible from Indian Pond RD.
